21-Year-Old Tells WSJ He Was Behind Massive T-Mobile Hack

John Binns, a Virginia native living in Turkey, told the Wall Street Journal that he was behind the recent T-Mobile breach that leaked sensitive information of more than 50 million people. Binns claims the attack was carried out to retaliate against the U.S. and attack its infrastructure. Binns filed a lawsuit against the FBI, CIA, and Justice Department stating he was being investigated for various cybercrimes. Binns also stated he had been tortured by US and Turkish Law Enforcement for being a member of the Islamic State militant group, which he denies being a member of. Binns would not confirm if the stolen data had been sold or if he had been paid to carry out the attack. He did admit he needed help getting login credentials to infiltrate T-Mobile’s systems.
