In yet another healthcare data breach, the Med Associates health billing company from Latham, New York suffered a breach which may have exposed personal data on over 270,000 customers. Med Associates said that on March 22nd of this year they noticed “unusual activity” on a workstation belonging to an employee. An investigation by their IT vender and a cyber forensic investigation company revealed that personal information may have been accessed by an unauthorized party. The information included names, addresses, dates of birth, dates of service, insurance information with ID numbers, diagnosis codes, and procedure codes. “Upon learning of this incident, we immediately secured the impacted workstation, implemented even more stringent information security standards and have increased staff training on data privacy and security,” they said. The company also stated that they will provide free credit monitoring for the affected individuals.
