Members of the Iranian government-linked group Charming Kitten attempted to compromise the private emails for members of the U.S. government, as well as nuclear scientists. In all, 77 individuals were targeted by the campaign, which was likely intended to gather information on future plans for sanctions against Iran. The campaign was discovered when a member of the group left a server open to the internet last month. The campaign appears to have relied on very basic phishing emails. It has not yet been revealed if any of the emails had actually been sent or not.
