Monday night the main website for Sweden’s Social Democrats has targeted by a DDoS attack. The attack began at approximately 9pm and lasted for nearly six minutes. This is the second attack in a week that the Social Democrats website was attacked during the heart of their election campaign, the first attack lasted for several hours. According to a spokesman for the political party the attacks originated in Russia and North Korea. While the attacks may have been launched from IPs originating in Russia and North Korea they were probably not state sponsored attacks from either nation as neither nations typically participates in DDoS attacks, especially when dealing with political situations. It is more likely that the attacker behind the DDoS attack was utilized servers or compromised devices with Russian and North Korean IP addresses.
