Two officials in Galveston County Texas have been ordered to resign by County Judge Mark Henry. Due in part to being the auditor and purchasing agent, he believes the two are responsible for scammers getting away with theft of the funds. The scammers posed as a country contractor working for Lucas Construction Company–which is a company doing road work for the county. After putting on an elaborate front, they were able steal $525,282.39 when all was said and done. They have still not been caught since this occurred in June. There is currently a dispute between the two officials and the judge on whether they should keep their jobs. In the defense of the officials, a Forensics Group revealed that a single office or person was responsible for the scammers taking the funds. The group also revealed fake email addresses used by the county and the contractor were utilized by the scam artists to acquire the funds.
