70,000 Valley Hope Association Patients Data Exposed

Valley Hope is a treatment center for addiction patients and recently they have suffered a data breach. The breach led to 70,000 patients’ data being compromised. Suspicious activity coming from an employee email led to an investigation. This investigation concluded that in fact an employee email account was compromised, and the attacker accessed an email with attachments that included patients’ personal info. Patient names, addresses, medication/ prescription information, SSN’s, financial information, driver’s licenses and ID card numbers, billing and claim info, DOB, health insurance info, medical records, and doctors’ names were all accessed in the breach. Valley Hope has begun informing the patients who may have been affected in the breach.
