Recipe Unlimited Corporation, a company that owns over a thousand restaurants all over Canada, recently suffered a malware attack. The attacked caused partial network outage and even forced some stores to close. Many locations had customers complaining about slow service and payment issues. Although at this time it is not sure what the main intent of the attack was, it appears as if the main office was the target of the attack. A statement was released by the company stating, ”Our priority is to continue working diligently with third-party security experts and internal teams to resolve the situation as quickly and effectively as possible. We maintain appropriate system and data security measures and as per standard operating procedures, conduct regular system back-ups to enable us to restore impacted systems.” Restaurants have been a bigger target recently, and it seems as if it is because a lot of them fail to run vulnerability scans, leaving them open to attacks.
