Data Dump for 7.3 million Dutch Car Owners Offered for Sale on Hacking Forum

RDC, a Dutch company that provides garage and maintenance services to Dutch car owners, recently confirmed a data breach after the personal and vehicle details of millions of Dutch car owners appeared for sale on a well-known cybercrime forum. As reported by TheRecord, the data includes names, addresses, email addresses, telephone numbers, dates of birth, vehicle registration numbers, car makes and models, as well as license plates.  The price of the entire package is $35,000.f

Analyst Notes

While the risk to individuals from malspam actors always increase following data breaches, the real risk here is that car thieves will use this data to find expensive cars to locate targets. RDC said it was unaware of the hack prior to the data being published online. Binary Defense analysts regularly monitor forums used for cybercrime operations, including the English-language Raid Forums (where this data was published) and many Russian-language cybercrime forums and other sources to provide our Counterintelligence clients with advanced warning if their company name or executives names are mentioned.
