On Monday, leaked audio from the day that Jamal Khashoggi died contained proof that the Saudi Arabian government was behind his death. Following the release of the audio and Saudi Arabia’s statement about the murder, many Saudi Arabian websites saw some sort of cyber-attack. Included in these attacks was the “Davos in the Desert” website which is the website for Saudi Arabi’s future investment initiative. The website was defaced with a picture of the Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, holding what appears to be a sword standing over top of Khashoggi, who is wearing an orange jumpsuit. This is an image of the poplar Islamic State execution videos and shows Salman wearing an outfit with the word “ISIS” on it. Other pictures from the defacement show a list of names and phone numbers, with a comment that states, “Exposing a thousand terrorists and spies of the Saudi regime who perform malicious activities around the globe.” No one has taken credit for the attack yet, but after the Monday release of the murder news, many countries are demanding Saudi Arabia share what really happened. Britain, Germany, and France all issued statements demanding that they needed clarity for his missing body. Turkey, who is believed to have leaked the audio is expected to release more details about what happened to Khashoggi, but in the meantime, it is likely Saudi Arabia will continue to see cyber-attacks of different natures against a various websites in support of Khashoggi.
