Jamal Khashoggi Situation May Lead to Increased Hacktivist Activity if Not Resolved

Pressure around the world is starting to increase on the Saudi government for answers surrounding Jamal Khashoggi.  Jamal Khashoggi is a journalist who was last seen entering the Saudi Embassy in Istanbul, Turkey earlier this month.  Some have claimed that he was followed by a “Saudi assassination squad” and was killed in the Saudi Embassy.  No one has seen or heard from Khashoggi since he entered the embassy including his fiancé.  Khashoggi had written a number of articles for the Washington Post which were highly critical of the Saudi Crown Prince.  International pressure has been building against the Saudi government to release answers about what happened to Khashoggi.  Some have begun to put pressure on the U.S. government as well, being that they are one of Saudi Arabia’s biggest allies.  Others have also begun to call on U.S. businesses to put pressure on the Saudi government.  Saudi Arabia invests heavily in U.S. businesses.  U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo arrived in Saudi Arabia early this morning to put pressure on the Saudi government for answers.  Groups like Anonymous have been known to carry out attacks on groups who have mistreated journalists.  It is likely that if details are not released soon, or if it turns out that Khashoggi is in fact dead, Anonymous will begin to carry out operations against the U.S. and Saudi governments as well as U.S. businesses who work with Saudi Arabia.
