Latvian Man Sentenced for Supporting Hackers

A 37-year-old Latvian man named Ruslan Bondars was sentence to 14 years in prison in the United States.  Bondars was arrested in May of 2017 in Riga, Latvia and extradited to the United States.  Bondars was found to be behind the popular Scan4You service, which worked similar to VirusTotal but was designed for use by criminals.  Scan4You would allow malware developers to scan their malware prior to deployment to see which antivirus systems could detect their malware.  Bonders was also found to have been involved in a number of other cyber-criminal activites.  Prior to his arrest, authorities had collected so much evidence against Bonders that he was found guilty after a speedy five-day trial earlier this year.
