Although not many details have been exposed, New Haven Public Schools had their website infected with ransomware. The attack occurred while the school district was working on its new website and the district’s COO confirmed that it did not have anything to do with the software installation. “It was a hacker attack. This was not because we installed any software,” said Michael Pinto, the COO. The district did not reveal the ransom amount, but they confirmed that they have not paid it and they are currently reviewing their security protocols. After some time investigating, all the encrypted files were restored from offline backups.
