Nobel Foundation Experiences DDoS Attack

A cyber-attack has affected the Nobel Foundation, who is responsible for awarding the Nobel Prizes. The attack is believed to have begun when the award ceremony took place on December 10th, 2021. After swift analysis, it would appear the Nobel Foundation’s website was experiencing a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack that was not allowing them to make updates to their site while the ceremony was occurring. Currently, there is no clear evidence of who is behind the attack, but the foundation has some ideas. It is possible that state-sponsored threat actors are responsible for the attack since the Nobel Foundation has been criticized about being biased when selecting winners of the prize.

Analyst Notes

While investigations are still ongoing, it is important to note that having a plan for when DDoS attacks occur can save a lot of time and effort. Practicing good cyber hygiene can also greatly reduce the occurrence of these attacks. Implementing a defense-in-depth security strategy will reduce service outages and minimize risks moving forward.
