North Korean Missile Test Could Lead to South Korean Cyber-Attacks

North Korea: North Korea has continued to demonstrate its displeasure with South Korean military exercises by carrying out a ballistic missile test.  North Korea has held the stance that continued military drills by South Korea represent an unwillingness to establish peace between the two nations.  Prior to the launch, North Korean officials said to a member of the US National Security Council that revived talks would be starting again very soon.  Their willingness to revive talks means that the launch was likely meant to intimidate South Korea and was not directed at the United States.  Following previous weapons tests by North Korea, South Korean government agencies and defense contractors have been targeted by cyber-espionage campaigns from North Korea.

Analyst Notes

Any organizations which work with or are part of the South Korean government need to be extra vigilant over the coming weeks.
