OpFreeAssange Growing and Now Targeting Sweden

Anonymous (opFreeAssange): Swedish prosecutor have announced that they are currently considering re-opening the case against Mr. Assange. When Mr. Assange first took refuge in the Ecuadoran Embassy it was in response to a warrant being issued for his arrest to stand trial for rape allegations in Sweden. This change has put Sweden in Anonymous’ crosshairs, though no actions have been taken yet. The majority of attacks in the OpFreeAssange campaign have been focused on the government of Ecuador, though a number of targets in the United States and the United Kingdom have been named. Early this morning the first successful attack was launched against the United Kingdom which took the website for all of the major police departments in the U.K. offline. The attack was launched around 2 o’clock in the morning EST leaving the website offline until shortly before 10:30 EST. Though a number of successful attacks have been carried out as part of OpFreeAssange the majority of the activity from the campaign has been a constant stream of Tweets against the government of Ecuador, the U.S., the U.K., and now Sweden.

Analyst Notes

As the case continues and the trials proceed there will probably be an increase in attacks targeting each of the aforementioned governments.
