Silence Returns With Attacks on Banks in India, Sri Lanka, Kyrgyzstan, and Bangladesh

Silence: It appears that the group Silence has gone active again with a campaign targeting banks in India, Sri Lanka, Kyrgyzstan, and Bangladesh. Previously, the group has focused its attack campaigns on banks located throughout Europe, especially eastern Europe. The campaign appears to have begun back in February and was run at least through May of this year. As with their campaigns throughout Europe, the group deployed custom designed malware to banking systems which were then utilized to cash out the bank’s ATMs. These campaigns require the use of not only the hackers who compromise the systems belonging to the banks but also coordinated efforts with people on the ground who can be present to collect the cash being dumped out of the ATMs.
