Sodexo Hit with Malware Attack

Sodexo, one of the world’s largest multinational companies with 420,000 employees was victim to a large data breach. Specifically, the internal IT systems in the UK unit Engage were targeted by the malware. Data that was stolen included customer names, email addresses and home addresses. They believe some employees using their benefits platform could have assisted the malware by opening a phishing email. Since there is not a specific cause and not much of a trace, a forensics firm is assisting Sodexo with their investigation. “A team of CREST-approved security specialists is working with us to investigate this issue and ensuring that we are preventing any further leaks of personal information. We have found no evidence so far that any financial information has been compromised. We have informed those customers affected and continue to update them,” said a Sodexo spokesperson. The number of affected users is unsure at present. This is not the first time Sodexo has been hit, they suffered a breach in April that obtained customer credit card details.
