Verizon-Owned Wireless Carrier Visible Dealing with Security Issue

Wireless carrier Visible, which is owned by Verizon, is dealing with security issues that have drawn many complaints from customers this week. Customers took to Reddit and other social media outlets and claimed they had no access to their accounts and that information was being changed without their doing. One customer even stated that they had a nearly $1,200 charge on their account from Visible for a purchase of a 128GB iPhone 13 Pro Max that was sent to an address in New York. Visible went on record to state, “As soon as we were made aware of the issue, we initiated a review and deployed tools to mitigate the issue, enabling additional controls to further protect our members. Our investigation indicates that threat actors were able to access username/passwords from outside sources and exploit that information to login to Visible accounts.” However, a person claiming to be from Visible on Reddit said that they do not believe the company was breached or compromised, and that the issue only affected a small number of member accounts.

ANALYST NOTES

It is recommended that all Visible customers update their account information, such as username and password, and be aware of potentially suspicious activity. Any other accounts that may use the same password or username should also be updated. Passwords should not be reused and should be created uniquely for each individual account.
