Wisconsin Diagnostics Laboratories Breach Affected 114,000 Patients

The American Medical Collection Agency (AMCA) made the Wisconsin Diagnostics Laboratory (WDL) aware on June 3rd, 2019 of a breach that occurred within their systems. The agency claims that unauthorized access took place between August 1st, 2018 and March 30th, 2019 and some patient data was exposed. Names, dates of birth, dates of medical services, names of lab or medical service providers, referring doctors, balances owed to WDL, and other medical information was accessed, but the agency verified that no Social Security numbers or lab test results were included. Due to this incident, WDL is no longer doing business with AMCA and they have taken the initiative of retrieving all data that was contained on AMCA’s systems. “We deeply regret any concern or inconvenience this incident may cause our patients. We have ceased doing business with AMCA and are taking steps to retrieve and secure all WDL information contained in AMCA’s systems,” stated WDL in a security brief. All patients that may have been affected have been made aware of the situation.

Analyst Notes

Users that may have had their information exposed are suggested to monitor their bills and bank statements for any suspicious activity. If any activity that was not carried out by the user is noticed they should report it to WDL as soon as possible.
