Hacktivist’s Focus Likely to Shift to U.S., U.K., and Sweden in Coming Days

Anonymous (OpAssange): Ecuador has been taking a beating in cyber-space over the arrest of Julian Assange ever since they allowed British law enforcement officers to remove him from their London Embassy.  The United States and the United Kingdom have been taking a beating in the court of public opinion by many and have faced a large number of cyber-attacks as well, with only a few being successful.  Mr. Assange has already faced one initial trial for extradition to the U.S. and may now face another extradition trial.  Mr. Assange initially sought asylum to avoid sexual assault charges in Sweden.  Sweden’s state prosecutor has said that they will officially announce on Monday whether or not they will reopen the case against Mr. Assange.  If they choose to reopen the investigation into the allegations against Mr. Assange, he could face an extradition hearing for being sent to Sweden as well as the request to extradite him to the United States.  Many hacktivists have been focused on Israel this week following their airstrike on Hamas hackers over the weekend.

Analyst Notes

Following Sweden’s state prosecutor’s announcement on Monday, their focus will possibly shift back to the United States, the United Kingdom, Ecuador, and Sweden.
