PFC Debt Collection Company Notifies Impacted Individuals of Data Breach

Accounts receivable management firm Professional Finance Company (PFC) announced last week that they had suffered a data breach. The company assists healthcare, financial, retail, and government sectors with consumer debt recovery. The healthcare industry seemed to be the primary victim when PFC’s systems were accessed. In total, 657 healthcare providers were potentially affected. Those organizations were made aware around May 5th, with official notices going out to impacted individuals on July 1st. The total number of victims has not yet been released, but information such as names, addresses, birth dates, accounts receivable balance and payment information, Social Security numbers, health insurance, and medical treatment information was potentially accessed. It has become more of a common occurrence for attackers to indirectly target the healthcare industry by going after the companies they work with who may store their information.
