Texas School District Phished for $2.3 Million

The Manor Independent School District in Texas revealed that an investigation has begun into a series of phishing emails sent to multiple employees that eventually resulted in a loss of $2.3 million USD.  While multiple employees received emails requesting money transfers over a period of one month, it only took one employee to fall for the scam and wire over three separate transfers totaling approximately $2.3 million. As this scam is a pretty common phishing scam, organizations should engage in information security training for all employees. By training employees on what they may encounter, employees become better prepared for cyberthreats, such as phishing scams.
