NCSC Issues Cyber Security Guidance For Farmers

Recently the NCSC issued their first-ever farmer-oriented guidance for cyber security after an increase in cyberattacks against farm businesses. The NCSC developed this guidance with the cooperation of the National Farmers Union, and urges all farmers to review the document. The first piece of guidance is to patch and update devices and software, including Windows, macOS, iOS and Android. Also, farmers are advised to enable automatic updates on as many devices as possible. Additionally, the NCSC recommends making regular backups of important documents, so that a ransomware attack does not result in the loss of invoices, orders, and other business-critical documents.

Analyst Notes

Binary Defense recommends that all farmers take a look at the document produced by the NFU/NCSC: https://www.nfuonline.com/news/latest-news/nfu-launches-cyber-security-guide-for-farmers/ as it provides quite a few well-researched recommendations. Additionally, for large farm operations with multiple servers and other critical computer assets, Binary Defense recommends employing a 24/7 SOC monitoring solution, such as Binary Defense’s own Security Operations Task Force.
